Biking for Beginners – You’ll Never Forget How to Do It
So, you want to start exercising regularly, but you don’t want to run because you feel like you’re just not getting anywhere. And you don’t want to swim because you either don’t know how or you simply don’t like getting wet. If this is the case, then you may want to consider bicycling for fitness and pleasure. Even a beginner can get pretty far in a single biking workout, and it’s done outdoors, which can be a nice change of pace from working out at the gym. It’s also a good, low-impact sport that’s easy on your joints. You might think that it requires a lot of equipment, but it might not be as bad as you think.
The first thing you need, of course, is a bicycle. Unless you’re planning to commit long-term to the sport, any old bicycle should do. You just want to make sure that your bike is sturdy and that the tires have some good tread on them. You’ll also need a helmet. Safety comes first, and it’s extremely dangerous to ride without a helmet. Finally, it’s a good idea to get some cycling gloves to buffer your hands from the bumps and jars that shock your hands through the handlebars, and also to protect your hands in case of a fall.
As with all new exercise regimens, you want to ease yourself in. There’s no need to go all-out on your first day, and this is especially true if you haven’t biked for a while. While it’s true that riding a bike is one of those skills that you just never seem to forget, it doesn’t necessarily follow that you’ll remember to ride a bike well. You should take it slow until you’re sure you’re comfortable and you have good enough control of your bike to increase your speed.
Once you’re feeling comfortable, feel free to gradually increase the intensity of your workouts. But always remember that safety comes first. Be sure to follow all the rules of the road, even if you’re riding on a bike trail. And always be alert. Just because you’re following the rules doesn’t mean that everyone else will. If you’re planning to ride at night, be sure to wear reflective clothing and attach a safety light to the front and back of your bicycle. But, if you follow all of these rules, then feel free to have fun and enjoy your biking experience.
