Health Q & A’s

Question: I recently had a hysterectomy and as a result have started menopause. Because this is starting earlier than I had thought it would, I haven’t even given any thought to what I should take to help with the symptoms. As well as night sweats and hot flashes, my mood is terrible and I am very easily irritated and often depressed. There seems to be quite a lot of products for menopause, and Femmerol was one brand I liked the look of. Does it help with menopause symptoms bought on by a hysterectomy?

Femmerol

Answer: Most manufacturers of menopause meds will state whether their products are suitable for women who have had a hysterectomy. Most are, but as in the case of Femmerol, while they have shown positive results in users, they were not actually clinically studied in this respect. What you can be sure of though by taking this product is that it is safe to use, containing natural herbal ingredients rather than the more controversial synthetic hormones (as used in Hormone Replacement treatment). Unfortunately, the information regarding the ingredients is a little sketchy, and while the main active substances (Black Cohosh, Ginger, Red Clover, Sage leaf and Kudzu root) are listed, no amounts are shown, making it impossible to know how potent the formula is.

As well as helping with menopausal symptoms, this particular product is also designed to help relieve PMS and peri-menopausal discomfort too. Additionally, it may increase energy and help with the problems of vaginal dryness and low libido, common effects of menopause. Anyone currently taking HRT can safely take this product too, although this should be discussed with a doctor first. It is also worth looking into other menopause-relief treatments such as acupuncture and relaxation techniques.

With the vast array of menopausal symptom relief products available today, many are quite effective in reducing those symptoms that plague women. It is important to use these products according to all the guidelines that come with the product in order to achieve maximum results. If you do shop for a menopausal symptom relief product in a health store, pharmacy or on the internet, you’ll often find many products do not contain the quality and/or quantity of necessary ingredients to effectively minimize menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings or weight gain. You should research your product of choice prior to purchase to find the best, most potent brand for your needs.

Natural treatment options can provide options for menopausal women so they can reduce menopausal symptoms such as weight gain, hot flashes/flushes, night sweats, decreased libido and mood swings. Finding the right product can be a difficult process considering the vast array of products and ingredients available. A quality menopause relief product should contain clinically proven ingredients that will help reduce menopausal weight gain and symptoms like hot flashes, hot flushes and night sweats, decreased libido while promoting hormonal balance. Below you'll find some of the most effective products that will help you resume living your life instead of merely enduring it.

Tips on Entering Smoothly into Menopause

  • Exercise regularly. It raises the metabolism, helps with depression and anxiety and controls weight. Any weight bearing exercise will help to maintain a healthy bone calcium content and reduce the risk of osteoporosis
  • Eat a diet that is rich in vegetables, fruits and essential fatty acids. Cold water fish, including salmon, mackerel, sardines, tuna and herring, are all good sources. Essential fatty acids help to support the nervous system which may be important for memory and brain function. Additionally they act as anti-inflammatories and maintain healthy skin. Try to include soy in the diet too as it supports estrogen regulation in the system.
  • Nuts and seeds should be added to the diet as a good source of fiber, protein and fatty acids. Flax seeds in particular are an important source of healthy anti-inflammatory fats that also regulate estrogen
  • Avoid high levels of sugar, alcohol, caffeine and over-processed foods. Quitting smoking will help reduce hot flashes and night sweats
  • Balance in the body helps to keep it healthy. Make sure to nurture your mind to keep it quick, your body to maintain physical well-being and your spiritual and emotional life to remain positive and healthy
