Finding the Hairdo That Suits You – Face Shapes
Tired of feeling frustrated and bullied by your hair? Do you wish you could boast of shiny locks that were always perfectly coiffed, but instead settle for hats, headbands, and hair bands every chance that you get? For those that aren’t born with the hair styling gene (almost everyone) it can be hard to know how to pick the right hairdo for your face and hair type. If you’re tired of getting a blank stare from your stylist every time you ask for something “cute but different” here are some beauty tips for how to choose the style that best suits your face shape.
The first, and most elusive face shape, is the oval. Although this is the most versatile face shape, it is also fairly uncommon. The oval face is typified by a very symmetrical line, with proportionate forehead and jaw shapes. If you are lucky enough to have a truly oval face, you’ll be glad to know that you can experiment with pretty much any hairstyle you want and get away with it. Most stylists will recommend that you choose a style with layers around your cheekbones and chin to draw the most attention to them. Avoid styles that are too voluminous on top, as they may make your face look too long.
The more common cousin of the perfectly oval face is the round face. This face shape tends to be a little shorter than the oval, and usually wider around the cheekbone area. Although it is more ordinary, the round face is usually thought of as the cutest face shape, and you’re going to have a large variety of hair styles to pick from as well. Choose hairstyles that will let you minimize the width of your face, like bobs that come just below the chin, or layered hair styles that will fall like a frame around your face.
Another common face shape is the long face, characterized by a vertically large forehead, chin or combination of both. Unlike the round faced person should stick with hair styles that downplay the width of their faces, long faced people should choose styles that make their faces look wider, and therefore more symmetrical. Avoid long, flat hairstyles that will only accentuate the length of your face and pull it down. Instead, try to choose a chin length bob style or a longer style but with bangs that you can sweep to the side.
