Fish Oils and What They can Do for You

I am sure that you all know by now the importance of eating fish. Everyone has heard that eating fish twice a week will help you to lose weight, and that fish are healthy, healthy, healthy! (Just wanted to drill that into you one more time in case you haven’t heard it enough yet!) You may have thought that we have found out everything there is to know about fish, and that we have discovered all of the health benefits of eating fish by now. Well, as it turns out, you would be wrong if you had figured those things.

It turns out that there are a lot more benefits to eating fish, and it may even be used to medicate, prevent or even cure certain illnesses and diseases in the future. It will take a few more studies and a lot more research before we know anything for sure though. What we do know, however, is very encouraging.

Researchers took fish oil and found an ingredient in it called Resolvin D2. They also found that this key ingredient can reduce inflammation. This sounds simple enough, but the type of inflammation that the fish oil reduces is also the type that leads to a number of different diseases.

One confirmed ailment that Resolvin D2 significantly helps, is arthritis. Scientists have know that fish oil can help arthritis for a while, but until this study, they did not know the extent that it helped. Even just a small amount of this ingredient will bring about a large positive change in symptoms, and will be a great relief to arthritis sufferers.

Researchers also looked into another ingredient found in fish oil – DHA, and they found that our bodies actually convert DHA into Resolvin D2, giving the body even more of this powerful ingredient. These results were very encouraging to the researchers, and will also be very encouraging to many people out there who suffer from the diseases that the Resolvin D2 will help alleviate.

Researchers did not give any information as to how much or how little fish you should eat to reap the maximum benefits of the ingredient Resolvin D2, and they did not release the information about which diseases it could help or even possibly cure, so I would recommend continuing to eat it between 2 and 4 times a week. Everything in life is better in moderation, even fish! Now, if you are able to get fish that you know for sure does not have any mercury in it, I would say you can go right ahead and eat it as many times a week as you want. Unfortunately, it is hard to get fish today that doesn’t have mercury, and if you eat this fish too often, you could be at risk of symptoms and diseases that can be brought on by too much mercury.
