Flat Irons – Choosing the Best Tools

There was a time when girls were so desperate to be able to straighten their hair that they used to literally lie down on an ironing board and subject their hair to the harsh dry heat of a clothing iron. The result was definitely very straight hair, except of course when the iron was left on too long, and they burnt their hair off instead. Thankfully, hair styling technology has come a long way since then, and we’ve figured out safer and more effective ways to temporarily straighten hair. The problem now is that there are so many different brands and styles of flat irons on the market now, people are confused as to which is the best. Here are tips for picking the right flat iron for you.

Flat Irons – Choosing the Best ToolsIf you’ve been to the hair styling aisle of the store before, you’ve probably already notice that a lot of the newer styles of flat irons are boasting that they’re made from ceramic instead of tourmaline, or that they include ionic technology. Although many people have switched to ceramic flat irons thinking that they were safer and more effective, there has been no scientific evidence that these irons are better at straightening hair, and they’re usually more expensive.

Another thing that you’ll want to pay attention to is the temperature capabilities of the different brands that you’re considering. It’s important you don’t choose an iron that will get to hot for your type of hair and burn or damage it. If you have relatively normal hair, that is not overly treated, you will be safe with a flat iron that can get from 360-380 degrees F. Those with curly, coarse, thick or ethnic hair will want to see out an iron that can get from 380-410 degrees F. Those with especially fine, thin, or bleached hair will want to make sure they choose an iron that does not go above 360 degrees.

If you travel on a regular basis, or simply don’t like to deal with a lot of cords messing up your bathroom, you’ll also want to consider carefully whether it would be more convenient for you to have a cordless flat iron. Although you will have to worry about batteries, these flat irons will make it possible to style your hair in any sort of setting and you can throw it in your purse for touch ups to your style during the day.
