Getting to the Bottom of Your Sleep Woes
Since sleep is very important in attaining good general health, everybody should be more conscious about sleep problems. It is quite common for an individual to wake up in the middle of the night for a couple of times or have trouble going to bed due to anxiety and stress caused by temporary problems at home and at work. However, if you are having chronic sleep problems, you might already need to go to a doctor. Here are some of the reasons why people experience long term sleep problems.
One of the major reasons why you are having sleepless nights is illness. Individuals who are suffering from flu or a bad case of colds can have interrupted sleep. This makes things very ironic because when you are having such upper respiratory problems, you need to have plenty of rest and sleep in order to speedily recover from your flu or cold attack. Another big reason why people lose sleep, which can lead to problems with one’s general health, is financial woes. People who are unable to pay their mortgage or those who have just lost their jobs are the ones that get affected by sleep deprivation. Lastly, over fatigue is also one of the main reasons for sleeplessness or poor sleep quality. Those who are maintaining two jobs and need to cut down their snooze time will eventually complain of other illnesses and conditions brought about their chronic sleep deprivation.
If you think that lack of sleep is the only thing that is bad for your general health, think again. There is also a condition called hypersomnia, which is more commonly known as excessive sleep. This condition occurs when one sleeps for over 10 hours, but still feels tired, fatigued and sleepy after waking up. Usually, people with this problem experience headache due to oversleeping.
Even if you sleep early each night and manage to get a total of 8 hours of sleep, you can still experience problems the next day especially if you have an interrupted sleep. The problem behind this is that you do not achieve the deep sleep that is necessary to release the important hormones that are needed for improving general health as well as memory consolidation. It is also important to stress that women are more likely to experience sleep problems than men. If you experience any type of sleeping disorders, you have to go to your doctor immediately. You need to know what is causing your chronic sleeplessness so you can do something about your snooze woes.
