Goal Setting – Eye on the Prize

Self improvement covers many different areas of the psyche, allowing you to gain a number of skills and attributes. Goal setting can be applied to a lot of different areas in your life. The ability to set realistic goals is important both in the workplace and in your personal life. Having short term goals at work usually means finishing a current set of projects, or getting more organized. Common workplace long term goals include creating relationships with co-workers that will allow you to better act as a team player, or improving your overall efficiency when performing a certain task.

Personal short term goals can include things like organizing an event or giving yourself a makeover. Long term goals can be anything from improving your body image through exercise to quitting smoking. Being able to set these goals and accomplish them, both in the workplace and at home, is a crucial part of taking on responsibilities in a mature way. The skills involved in setting and realizing goals can be used in a number of other applications, making goal setting a valuable part of self improvement for a number of reasons.
