Hair with a Twist – Dealing With Curls

Just like there are millions of different people in the world, all with their own traits and quirks that set them apart from every other human being, there are thousands of different types of hair and even more ways that you can style it. If you have been born with a head full of curls, you should consider yourself lucky, as there are plenty of people that pay good money to get their hair curled and chemically altered by stylists on a regular basis. If you have curly hair, you probably love it, but if you’re having trouble managing it, here are some tips that you can use.

Hair with a Twist – Dealing With CurlsOne of the most common complaints for people with curly hair is that they can’t get rid of the frizziness that makes their curls a headache instead of a joy. These people will spend hundreds of dollars on so-called anti-frizz products trying to get their smooth, silky curls back, when the real culprit is lurking in your bathroom cabinet, and not in the shower. Nine times out of time it is the hair blow dryer that causes frizz, and not your shampoo. If you can, always allow curly hair to air dry after combing with a wide toothed comb and applying a leave in conditioner.

If you’re tired of your curls, you might be seeking ways that you can relax them into sultry waves, or do away with them all together. Although you might think the fastest way to go from curly to straight is to bust out the flat iron, be careful! In most cases the intense heat of the flat iron will temporarily relax the natural twist of your hair, but after a while this will disintegrate into frizz. Your best bet is to simply find a relaxing leave in conditioner that will unravel your hair natural. Only use the flat iron on special occasions when your hair must be stick-straight.

Another way that you might be able to naturally relax your hair without drying it to a crisp is simply to grow it out a little bit longer than you would normally wear it. The extra weight of the hair will succumb to gravity, and you might notice that the curls become a little less pronounced and frizzy. However, longer hair can be a little annoying to take care of, and it comes with its own special set of instructions for achieving healthy hair.
